Florida Keys – Miami to Key West

Written by sailor2512 on February 17th, 2011

If you have had a few days in Miami and done all the beach-walking in Miami Beach and having cocktails in the hotel bars and seen all the Art Deco hotels and the flash cars you might want to drive south to Key West. It is here Hemingway used to sit and watch the sun set over the horizon, sipping his beer and enjoying the cooler evening air. Key West is a place that comes to life at night. Jugglers and street artists crowd the harbour front, music fills the air and people meet to have a glass of wine and share stories. The days are sizzling hot, really just bearable in the pool or on the water, maybe on a snorkeling or sailing tour. Swim with dolphins or just hang out in the hotel pool and save your energy for the balmy Caribbean nights that seem to never end. Hotels are plentiful and so are the excursion offers. And don’t forget the experience of driving down a highway over the open sea down to the southernmost point of the United States. Quite different, the Keys. If you think you have seen everything in the U.S., don’t miss this – it’s worth it!
