San Francisco Stopover – Cheap Flights to Europe

Written by sailor2512 on February 4th, 2011

For those who don’t like to fly around the world via Los Angeles but want to book a flight to Europe via the USA San Francisco is a great stopover city. The airport is smaller than Los Angeles and somehow nicer all around. And then San Francisco is such an interesting place to visit. It’s best to stay in a nice downtown hotel such as the Carlton Hotel or the Holiday Inn Fisherman’s Wharf. From there you can…

just walk to all the sights like Fisherman’s Wharf, Civic Center, Opera House, or take a stroll beneath Golden Gate Bridge. From the park there you can take great photos with Golden Gate Bridge in the background. Or take a cruise in the San Francisco Bay and see the city from the water.
When I have a few days in the city on a stopover though I rent a car and stay in the Best Western Lighthouse right on the beach. It’s just an easy 15 minutes drive from downtown San Francisco yet you can take an evening stroll on the beach after an exciting day in the city and even see the Pacific ocean from the oceanfront rooms. Rental cars are not very expensive in the USA, especially if you take them for a whole week, since with weekly rates the last 2 days are usually free. And if you have a rental car and a day or two to spare it’s certainly worth checking out the giant redwood trees just north of  San Francisco. Or take the real nature experience and go hiking in Sequoia National Park or even Yosemite. It certainly is worth the drive, especially when it takes you right through a massive redwood tree! So take a rental car or even a motorhome campervan for maximum freedom and enjoy!
