Los Angeles Stopover

A lot of flights from New Zealand to Europe go via Los Angeles and most people don’t care to stay there even for a day. But it sure is a fun city to spend a few days in. Hotels in the airport vicinity are quite reasonable. I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza once and that was very good. All hotels near the airport offer a free shuttle service. Recommendable are also the Sheraton Gateway Hotel and the Westin Los Angeles Airport. If the budget is tight the Hacienda Hotel is okay. If you don’t want a rental car you can take the Blue Bus from the airport. It takes you right to Hollywood where you can do the Walk of Fame or see the mansions of famous moviestars. If you want to visit Universal Studios or Disneyland it is better to get a rental car and be independent. If you have a few days to spare, drive out to Yoshua Tree National Park or up the coast to Venice. Rental cars are not so expensive in the States, so why not visit all the sights you’ve always wanted to see! Or if you really want to get out and avoid the big hotels, why not rent a motorhome and stay wherever you like?
